Performer, singer-songwriter and reality TV star Marina Summers is all about making statements, whether it’s through her show-stopping dance performances, snazzy tropical-themed aesthetics or avant-garde, performance art ensembles. She’s also a big champion of elevating local drag and queer talent to a wider audience, and uses her art as a driving force for queer representation in mainstream media.
We recently caught up with the Drag Race Philippines runner-up to talk about day-to-drag holiday styling, Christmas plans, and the best gift she’s received this year.
HOW DO YOU TRANSFORM YOUR HOLIDAY OUTFIT FROM DAYWEAR TO DRAG-WEAR?
I always like my daywear and drag-wear to look very different from each other. I’m so fascinated by strong visual transformations. Out of drag, I like to wear more of a gender-bending and modern type of clothing—may it be crop tops, printed pants, sheer clothing paired with statement jackets or blazers. And when I transform into drag, I like to be more sexy and sultry but also statuesque, elegant and supreme.

DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS ON REPURPOSING CERTAIN PRODUCTS TO CREATE NEW LOOKS?
Styling is key. You can always make a previously worn piece new by throwing in some accessories and mix and matching it with different clothing ensembles.
WHAT’S A TYPICAL DAY LIKE FOR MARINA SUMMERS?
There’s a lot of on-the-go errands during my day. I go from meetings and fittings to buying drag-necessities, from meeting my friends to having down time with my family.

WHAT'S THE BIGGEST GIFT FOR YOURSELF THIS YEAR?
The amount of love, support and respect towards drag artists has been the biggest gift I have ever had this year.
HOW DO YOU PLAN TO SPEND THE HOLIDAYS?
Get more quality time with my family, party and hang out with friends and of course deliver show-stopping performances in drag for my audience!
